Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) provides funding support for community empowerment activities through the Community Service Program scheme managed by the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) and various units within UNDIP. One program that is directly related to urban farming and community economic development is “Community Economic Empowerment through Urban Farming: An Aquaponic System in Tanjung Kulon Village, Kajen District, Pekalongan Regency.” The program received internal faculty funding of IDR 24,500,000 in 2022. The funding was used to support community empowerment activities through an aquaponic system, which integrates plant and fish cultivation and can be implemented in areas with limited land.

The results of the program implementation showed that the community received education on the provision of green spaces, fish and plant cultivation through an aquaponic system, as well as financial management of the cultivation results. The program also demonstrated tangible progress in the aquaponic system that was developed, with the vegetables and fish growing optimally through the third week of implementation. This activity demonstrates that UNDIP’s community service funding is not only used to conduct training, but also supports the implementation of urban farming technologies that have the potential to provide economic value to the community. The program was funded by P3M and the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of Universitas Diponegoro and was published in Jurnal Pasopati as documentation of the activity results.
