On May 20th, 2026, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) signed CANIE Accord, a public commitment signed by any organizations, specially from education sector, which provide practical actions designed to guide the international education sector’s response to the climate crisis. By signing the CANIE Accord, UNDIP not only joins a global and sector-wide movement committed to responsible environmental stewardship, but also demonstrates UNDIP’s dedication to taking urgent and meaningful action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to civitas academia and partners of UNDIP.
The Rector of Universitas Diponegoro, Prof. Suharnomo, gave statement about UNDIP’s joining into CANIE community that, “becoming a member of CANIE further strengthens the university’s strategic position in contributing to the resolution of global challenges, particularly those related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By signing CANIE ACCORD, UNDIP fully supporting movement in climate action.”, he stated. Prof. Suharnomo emphasized that Universitas Diponegoro remains firmly committed to becoming a leading and sustainable university through impactful research, innovation, and international collaboration. Furthermore, the university is dedicated to nurturing future agents of change (alumni) in the environmental sector by equipping them with the competence, leadership, and global awareness needed to address pressing environmental issues worldwide.
Signing CANIE Accord in 2026, UNDIP shows its commitment to comply 26 CANIE Accord commitments which UNDIP commit to its highest feasible level of ambition to drive impactful climate action. CANIE Accord is one of CANIE products that can be joined and signed by any organization who also has big concerns on climate action, reducing greenhouse gas, and widely to Sustainable Development Goals.
“I appreciate Universitas Diponegoro in showing its leadership in encouraging the education sector towards more climate-conscious operations,” said CANIE Board President, Ainslie Moore. “By signing the CANIE Accord, international education leaders commit to take concrete, practical, and impactful steps to address global temperature rise, and do it in a way that is grounded in social justice,” she added.
UNDIP concerns in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by encouraging studies, researches, and community services that closely related to SDGs by UNDIP academia. UNDIP also established SDGs Center UNDIP as the center of SDGs studies and activities coordinator at university level. By joining CANIE, UNDIP with all units connect to an international network of educators working collaboratively toward impactful climate action goals.
