SEMARANG – Sekolah Vokasi UNDIP Building recently got a certificate as an EDGE ADVANCED Preliminary Certificate from Green Building Council Indonesia by using EDGE green building certification application version v2.1.1 (software platform). The certification was issued by January 1st 2021 based on three measurements.
EDGE stands for Exellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies innovated by IFC (International Finance Corporation), that aims to mainstream green buildings and help fight climate change. Green Building Council Indonesia itself is an independent NGO that pursue socialization and transformation of sustainable green principle in building construction industry in Indonesia and as the sole provider of certification services. By looking at the certifier institution description, it is clear that Sekolah Vokasi UNDIP building was certified for its characteristics of green building.
The measurement of green building certification was based on energy measures, water measures, and materials. It is stated in the certificate that Sekolah Vokasi UNDIP building meets energy saving measurement reaching 65%, water saving measurement reaching 42%, and less embodied energy in materials reaching 66%. Energy measures include reduced window to wall ratio, reflective paint for external walls, external shading devices, insulation of roof, natural ventilation for corridors, variable refrigerant volume cooling system, energy saving light bulbs for internal spaces, and solar photovoltaics.
Water measures include low-flow faucets, efficient flush for water closets in all bathrooms, water-efficient urinals, grey water treatment and recycling system, black water treatment and recycling system. Materials measure include using in-situ reinforced concrete slabs for floor slabs and roof construction, using steel sheets on steel rafters for roof construction, using aluminum-clad sandwich panel and autoclaved aerated concrete blocks for external walls, and using autoclaved aerated concrete blocks and plasterboards on metal studs with insulation for internal walls.
By granting this certificate, UNDIP has manifested the SDGs value as a commitment to achieve the SDGs (goal 9) in education institution level. This certificate also encourage UNDIP to apply green building principles more on its building construction and campus area arrangement.
