UNDIP has a strong commitment to achieve carbon neutrality at the university (https://the.undip.ac.id/download/18sdg17/37.UN7.P.SE.2017%20Program%20Carbon%20Neutrality%20di%20Undip.pdf). Through the petition letter signed by the rector on 12 December 2017, UNDIP asked all Deans and head of units to plant the trees around the campus, minimize the use of electricity and water, reuse and recycle of the waste and encourage all academic community to use Trans Semarang Bus Rapid Transit (public bus transport) for their transportation from/to UNDIP campus. Start from 2017 onward, UNDIP prohibits new students from bringing cars into campus (https://the.undip.ac.id/download/18sdg13/prohibits%20new%20students%20from%20bringing%20cars.pdf). UNDIP also encourages the use of emission free vehicles in the campus area (https://the.undip.ac.id/download/18sdg13/emission%20free%20vehicles.pdf). To support and promote the academic community to use Trans Semarang Bus Rapid Transit, in 2018 UNDIP in partnership with Semarang municipality office launched the Trans Semarang Bus Rapid Transit Corridor V route Meteseh-PRPP and UNDIP-UNNES Corridor VI (https://ekbis.sindonews.com/read/1193245/34/brt-trans-semarang-koridor-v-dan-vi-resmi-meluncur-1490967498). Another effort to realize carbon neutrality at the campus is through ‘nebeng’ program where the students and staffs are urged to go together with friends who have a car or motorcycle (https://www.e3s-conferences.org/articles/e3sconf/pdf/2018/48/e3sconf_icenis18_02003.pdf). Development of ‘biopori absorption hole’ and tree planting activities carrying out periodically by the ‘Student Activity Units’ at UNDIP campus are also encouraged and supported by UNDIP to increase the carbon absorption and thus carbon neutrality at the university (https://jateng.tribunnews.com/2015/05/04/wapaela-undip-tanam-100-pohon-dan-membuat-biopori-di-kampus; https://fsm.undip.ac.id/2019/10/penananaman-pohon-dan-senam-di-fakultas-sains-dan-matematika). To reduce the emissions produced by the motor vehicles, UNDIP provides free shuttle buses from the city to campus and from campus to city, UNDIP through cooperation with the Semarang city government also provides regular low-cost buses that pass through the campus and several locations in the city, UNDIP provides bicycles in each faculty or other unit that can be used free of charge by anyone on campus. UNDIP also prohibits parking in the area on the campus because the parking building has been prepared even though the capacity is limited (https://www.e3s-conferences.org/articles/e3sconf/pdf/2018/48/e3sconf_icenis18_02003.pdf). With regard to waste, UNDIP commits to reduce the production of waste and waste disposal (https://the.undip.ac.id/download/18sdg13/waste%20disposal.pdf). In the case of over production of waste, the waste must be recycled or processed into organic fertilizer. UNDIP also encourages all academic community to minimize the use of electricity. Given that electricity is generated from fossil fuel and coal, the minimum use of electricity may consequently reduce the production of carbon (https://the.undip.ac.id/download/18sdg13/minimum%20use%20of%20electricity.pdf). Overall, the carbon neutrality at the university is desired to be achieved on 2025.
